Light Death Art Show at Hurley.

The Light Death Art Show was held at Hurley headquarters this past Friday featuring art from Lance Mountain, Salba, Steve Olson, Duane Peters and C.R. Stecyk III. Powerflex 5 played some live music thoughout the night and the skatepark was open to the public. Only a few pieces from each artist were displayed, but all were epic in their own right. Some of the stand outs for me were Lance’s Nude Bowl replica and DP’s guitar.

Taco Dudes were there serving up the grub and PBR was there to help wash it down. Hurley was printing t-shirts right on the spot, but we got there late and missed out on them. Luckily, I did get my hands on the Light Death zine was being handed out showcasing random shots from pool adventures.

PK put together a video from the sesh at Ridiculous prior to the show.

Thanks to Hurley and everyone involved for a great event.

Al Brunelle.

It was a Saturday morning. Cam Dowse was coming out to ride pools with Brandon, KB and I. He asked about bringing this young guy along who had just moved here from Colorado. Cam had moved to southern California from Colorado himself and rode with this guy coming up… his name was Al Brunelle. We drove out into the windy desert. The wind turbines near Palm Springs spun lazily in the afternoon breeze. They looked like strange giants… whirling and purposeful. We laughed and talked about pools. We educated our young ‘Padowan Learner’. Al is a tall dude! He’s over six feet tall and he reminded me of a young Neil Blender. We cleaned out our first pool and quickly got into her. Al startled me. He pushed in and did a stand up 5-0 on the facewall right off the mark. After that, ollies, disasters, and other tricks flowed out of him with apparent ease and style.

I was stoked. It is unusual to see someone –virtually unknown–with such raw natural talent and Al definitely has it! A few weeks later, I took Al along with me to a few pool sessions and introduced him around. He is always nice, humble and a stand-out out in every session. I recently had him come along to a Powell Peralta team photo session so that he could meet the guys and ride with some fantastic skaters. Al didn’t disappoint. He lit it up and the energy and vibe of the session was enhanced. At the Vans Am contest, Al brought home a well-deserved 2nd Place finish and we are all stoked for him. He is now on Powell Peralta Flow Team and has been riding heavily with some of skateboardings best. Congratulations Al. We are glad that you are here! Thanks to Cam Dowse and Glen Charnoski for schooling the kid! Thanks to Deville Nunes for the image and Peter King for the video. Skate- Ozzie

2011 Photographic Year in Review.

2011 is over and I’m sure most of you are over 2011. It’s been a rough year for most, but one thing for sure is that skateboarding made it a lot better. Skated a ton of amazing pools, took road trips to Arizona and Fresno and got to skate and photograph a bunch of awesome people. Here is some of what went down.

Thank you to everyone that takes time out of their day to visit the site. Here’s to a better 2012!

Bruce Brown R.I.P.

Bruce Brown’s name is permanently scribed into the concrete deck at this close to perfect right had kidney, so Ozzie coined it as Bruce Brown’s pool. I was fortunate to hit this one a few times with some good dudes. Unfortunately, the house is now on the market, been fully re-landscaped and the pool transformed from a skaters paradise to a desert oasis.
