ASE/Broken Mag Hessian Session 7/10/10.

The guys at ASE and Broken Magazine held a little mini ramp jam and BBQ on Saturday, so KB and I drove down to check it out. Nick Gates hyped the crowd into death match style frenzy as Slayer was pumping thru the sound system. I only took a few pics towards the end. Kevin ended up taking first place, Johnny Abernathy took second and everyone else was third.

Eddie’s 7/3/10.

Finally made it over to this skate funzone Eddie has been talking about. The pool has nice transition in the deep, but the shallow is pretty much unridable…making it a little challenging. It only took KB and Tristan and few runs to get it figured out.

Tristan takes a big 5-0 over the school of fish.

KB, frontside grinds? all the time.

With some heavy motivation, Nathan gets over the light.

Sheriff Eddie showin’ his badge.

Then took the session to the mini…

Bruce Brown R.I.P.

Bruce Brown’s name is permanently scribed into the concrete deck at this close to perfect right had kidney, so Ozzie coined it as Bruce Brown’s pool. I was fortunate to hit this one a few times with some good dudes. Unfortunately, the house is now on the market, been fully re-landscaped and the pool transformed from a skaters paradise to a desert oasis.

Memorial Weekend.

Drove down to Pala on Sunday with KB and Scott to meet up with Chris and his crew. Had the whole park to ourselves. I didn’t take any photos, but KB got a couples shots.

I used KB’s camera to shoot this huge ollie over the trash can.

Monday headed over to Dave’s and did more talking than skating, but had a good time just hanging out.

Left Dave’s. got some In and Out and then hit a quick backyarder.

Finished the day off at Brookhurst Park to see the old Sadlands and roll around the skatepark.

Many skaters stay away from the desert areas because of the heat. However, I have– more than– a few friends that go wherever the pools are. Their thinking is quite the opposite of those that sit by the ‘beach cities’ & complain. I have pool pals back East that drive several hours & shovel snow in order to ride pools. I guess its simply a matter of being spoiled. Lets face it…California skaters have a ‘golden ticket’. Its all here & always has been. Sometimes though, you must earn it! Recently, a great crew from Orange County & the surrounding areas, got together & drove out into the heat of Coachella Valley. They cleaned, swept & prepared the pools, then tore it up. The heat was a secondary consideration & the bullnose coping took a brutal pounding that day. I saw more smiles & progression than I had seen in quite some time. That is really what its all about…isn’t it? Skate-Ozzie
